July 3, 2005- Barrie, Ontario- Team 3 Red worked their way through a trying weekend earning a well deserved 10th place finish at the Dodge Charger 300 this weekend at Barrie Speedway.
As the Teams took to the newly configured racetrack on Sunday morning, it was quite apparent that it was a one groove race track and passing would be tough. The Team qualified in the 15th starting spot in the tight field and the name of the game for the grueling 300 laps was to stay out of trouble and be there at the end of the race.
As the green flag fell, drivers jostled around to find their spots on the track and Team 3 Red driver Stu Robinson Jr. picked up 2 spots on his first lap. When the first caution flag flew on lap 36 the #3 Snap-on Tools machine was running 11th. The team took a temporary set back when they had to come into the pits for a stop and go penalty, but quickly set back into their rhythm working their way back up to 19th. As the laps clicked away, lapped traffic became an issue and Robinson Jr. avoided multiple accidents, keeping the car straight and in contention.
The first of two competition yellow flags came out on lap 105 in which all of the cars were brought to pit road while track officials swept the track. By the half way point of the long 300 lap race, Robinson Jr. was running 15th. Fighting a tight race car and a track that was coming apart in the corners, the Team worked together and kept their pace going. The best battle of the day came on lap 273 as Robinson Jr. made the pass to take the Team to their 10th place finish on the inside of the #10 along the back stretch and into corner 3.
"This is one interesting race track!" exclaimed Stu Robinson Jr. as he climbed out of his #3 Snap-on Tools Dodge. "If you were on the outside at this track you were freight-trained for sure. It was tough, but the Team worked hard and my spotter Mike Wagner helped me all day long! 10th place feels great and we will take it!
Crew Chief Duane Swinkels was proud of the Team "Our Team focused on the big picture today and that was to keep the car in one piece and be there in the end. 10th place feels great and this team worked really hard for it! Stu drove an awesome race!"
The Team is right back into action this week as they take their road course car out for its second and final outing of the year at the Molson Indy Toronto this weekend. The Team will qualify their car on Saturday evening on the 1.72 mile asphalt city street road course and run their main event on Sunday at 4:25 pm.

Two races this Weekend for Alain Bergeron
On Saturday night Alain Bergeron will be at Can-Am Spedway in Lafargeville NY and on Sunday night all the 'Empire Super Sprints' drivers will be at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon NY. Can-Am is a track where Alain Bergeron won one of his six career wins in Sprint Cars.
Alain Bergeron is now in fifth row in the Championship points standing of the 'Empire Super Sprints'. Fifth also in the 'Walt's Hobby Dash series', Fourth in the 'Canadian Challenge' and First in the 'Gater Racing News Lap Leader' points series.

Hinchcliffe captures first Star Mazda pole position at Pikes Peak

July 2, 2005. Fountain, Colorado. AIM Autosport driver James Hinchcliffe captured his first pole position today on the one-mile oval at Pikes Peak International Raceway ahead of Round Five of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. Hinchcliffe, from Oakville, Ontario, Canada, lapped the circuit in 25.803 seconds (139.519 MPH). Fellow rookie Robbie Pecorari will complete the front row of the grid after posting a time of 25.978 (138.579 MPH) in the SAI Hydraulics Andersen Walko Racing Mazda.
Rookies will occupy the first five positions on the grid as Pecorari's Andersen Walko Racing teammate Pablo Donoso will start third in his Cristal Beer Mazda with a lap of 26.031 (138.297 MPH), edging out Adrian Carrio in the Rockford Fosgate World Speed Motorsports Mazda by seven-hundredths of a second. Carrio set a new track record in practice earlier in the day with a time of 25.559 (140.851).
Rounding out the fast five will be Sean Guthrie in the Car Crafters Guthrie Racing Mazda who posted a fast time of 26.170 (137.562 MPH). Current points leader Raphael Matos, winner of the first four rounds of the championship, will start ninth in his Ocean Tomo Racing Mazda. 27 cars made qualifying attempts with the top seventeen cars separated by less than a second.
Round Five of the championship will be held on Sunday, July 3rd at 5:30 PM Central Time and is scheduled for 75 laps as part of the Pikes Peak International Raceway Rocky Mountain Classic. For more information please visit www.starmazda.com.

New Richmond (Quebec), July 3, 2005 - Quebec rally driver Antoine L'Estage (96) who has been fairly unlucky so far this season. 96 took a sweet revenge this past weekend by winning the North American Baie-des-Chaleurs Rally, Round 3 of the Canadian Rally Championship held in Gaspesia, Quebec.
Co-driven by Ontarian Brian Maxwell, L’Estage set a blazing pace from the word go. Driving a Hyundai Tiburon 4WD, L’Estage took the lead of the rally on Friday night, setting the fastest times on the dusty gravel roads. At the end of the first day of competition, he enjoyed an impressive one-minute gap over their pursuers!
On day two, Antoine L’Estage continued to push hard to maintain a comfortable lead over his rivals, mainly American Matthew Iorio and Quebecer Sylvain Erickson. At the finish, L’Estage of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, PQ, finished first with a 57-second lead ahead of Iorio. This victory puts Estage back in hunt for the 2005 title.
By finishing in second place aboard his Subaru Impreza WRX, Iorio greatly impressed everyone, as this was his first participation to the Baie-des-Chaleurs Rally, an event known as one of the most competitive on the schedule. Iorio followed by Erickson (who was co-driven by his daughter Chloe) fought hard all event long. Finishing in third place may decide Erickson to compete in the next event, the Defi Ste-Agathe/Duhamel Rally.
Toronto, Ontario’s Peter Thomson, the winner of the opening two rounds of the season and point standings leader before the event started, drove his Group N Subaru Impreza to fourth place ahead of a trio of American competitors. Thomson is still first in the championship standings, 23 points ahead of John Cassidy.
Frederick Labrie finished 8th and the Sprongl brothers 10th, scoring a class victory and bringing home their showroom stock Suzuki Swift + in first place in the two-wheel drive division. In Group 2, Eric Lapointe (Honda Civic) and Alberta’s Gord Olsen (VW Golf) were both classified in first place.

OSCAAR: HANLEY MEASURES UP TO SUCCESS AT MOSPORT
The OSCAAR Outlaws roared into Mosport, Saturday July 2, on a hot, sunny afternoon, displaying just what makes them the fastest racing series in Ontario!
On the stopwatch during practice, it was obvious that the OSCAAR Outlaws were set to do battle on Mosport’s half-mile oval. According to the track’s radar gun, different Outlaw teams were caught speeding down the backstretch at an easy 110 mph throughout the night!
Jeff Hanley hit all the marks, scoring the maximum available points for the night. Two heat race wins, race leader for all 50 feature race laps and of course winning the feature, all reflect the domination of the #70 Outlaw last night. The 330 points gained moves Hanley up 7 spots to 8th in the standings.
The race for the lead was an exciting battle all evening with several Outlaw drivers trying to chase down the #70. Early on it was the #15 of Al Shepstone, who was definitely one of the fast teams of the night, and the #03 of Shane Maginnis who were giving chase. Both cars retired from the race early, Al Shepstone with motor problems and Shane Maginnis with break problems.
The familiar sight of Rob Clarke in the #49 Outlaw working his way up from 7th in the starting grid left everyone wondering whether Clarke would be the one to catch Hanley. Despite a couple of late race cautions that closed in the field, Hanley had the car to beat and pulled away from Clarke. The #49 took home 2nd place and a 15-point lead over the #61 of John Fletcher who finished the race in 3rd place.
The #54 Outlaw of Michel Beyore finished an impressive and strong fourth place, while OSCAAR’s Fast Eddie Rookie of the Year contender, Ed Bowlby, drove to a solid fifth place.
OSCAAR’s next event is at Peterborough Speedway on July 16th. Fans won’t want to miss this night of racing action; as the Outlaws use this event to test and tune for the 7th Annual Don Biederman 75 Lap Memorial Event, set to take place at Peterborough Speedway on September 3rd.

CASCAR: Barrie Summary & Results
Dilley wins Dodge Charger 300 presented by the Dodge Dealers of Ontario CASCAR Super Series race at Barrie Speedway
BARRIE, ON – CASCAR Super Series veteran Mark Dilley was once a part-owner of Barrie Speedway. His intimate knowledge of the newly re-configured speedway paid off on Sunday afternoon with a victory in the Dodge Charger 300 presented by the Dodge Dealers of Ontario.
Dilley’s Dodge / Mobil 1 / Power Water / Exide Dodge Charger started third in the 300-lap affair and led three times, including the final 50 tours of the high-banked, 1/3-mile tri-oval. Dilley, a resident of Barrie, ON, emerged relieved, exhausted and thrilled following the race.
The new racing surface, which was laid down just last fall, took a beating over the Canada Day Northern 500 Race Weekend. Intense heat and a doubleheader weekend featuring both the Super Series and the CASCAR PowerWater Sportsman Series resulted in portions of the track coming up during the Super Series feature event.
“Wow. That was like driving on ice,” said Dilley, after the win. “Every turn felt like driving down a dry road and then hitting six inches of slush right when you want to turn. That started about lap 30.” Race officials took the opportunity to clear the track of the asphalt debris during two red flag stoppages, but the relief from the tough handling conditions was only short-lived as the clutter quickly returned on each occasion. “Once I saw what was going on, my whole plan was to stick to the bottom of the track,” continued Dilley. “Call me a ‘bottom hugger’ if you want, but that’s what I had to do to bring that Dodge home in one piece.”
Finishing second to Dilley was another CASCAR veteran with a strong history at Barrie Speedway. Kerry Micks of Mt. Albert, ON started on the pole in his PowerWater Taurus and in spite of a strong effort to unseat Dilley from the top spot late in the race, was forced to settle for second.
Castrol Dodge Charger driver DJ Kennington came home third after charging forward from the 18th starting position in the 22-car field.
Super Series points leader and four-time National Champion Don Thomson led once for 58 laps but he also fell victim to the debris that slickened the outside groove, and dropped several positions after leaving the low-line on one occasion, en route to a fourth-place finish in his Home Hardware Chevy. Three-time National champ Dave Whitlock (Avenue Motor Works Dodge Charger / Wyoming, ON) rounded out the top-five finishers in the event that was slowed 12 times for a total of 83 caution laps.
The next CASCAR Super Series race takes place next weekend at the Molson Indy Toronto. Jeff Lapcevich of Caistor Centre, ON (Fastline / Tim Hortons / EMCEA Transport Chevy) is the defending winner of the CASCAR street circuit race on the grounds of Toronto’s Exhibition Place circuit.

POWERWATER SPORTSMAN SERIES: Barrie Summary & Results
Lethbridge wins CASCAR PowerWater Sportsman race at Barrie
BARRIE, ON – Ron Lethbridge of Barrie, ON thrilled his hometown fans on Saturday night at Barrie Speedway by winning the 100-lap CASCAR PowerWater Sportsman Series race. The Fuel Genie Dodge driver started on the outside of the front row and quickly moved to the head of the 23-car field.
Lethbridge, a rookie competitor on CASCAR’s Sportsman Series, passed polesitter Brad Graham on the first lap and led the way for the remainder of the race, which was slowed by four cautions for a total of 24 laps.
Defending PowerWater Series champ Graham (HB Material Handling Dodge) chased Lethbridge for the entire race distance, but the Glencoe, ON racer could not recover the top spot. The final podium position went to Dion Verhoeven of Kerwood, ON in his McRobert Fuels Pontiac.
The Canada Day Northern 500 Race Weekend at Barrie Speedway continues on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. with the Dodge Charger 300 presented by the Dodge Dealers of Ontario; the fourth race of the CASCAR Super Series season. Mt. Albert, ON racer Kerry Micks will start on the pole on Sunday afternoon in his PowerWater Ford, alongside of Super Series points leader Don Thomson Jr. in his Home Hardware Chevy.
